When Truth Burns

Truth doesn’t whisper. It scorches. It tears through the illusions I built to protect myself, and leaves nothing but raw skin behind. I used to think truth was supposed to comfort me. But the first thing it did was wound me because it showed me who I really was. Not the mask. Not the smile. Not the version I wanted people to see. The real me. But the Word reminds me: “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)

Truth burns, but it doesn’t burn to destroy. It burns to refine. It burns away the lie that I can save myself. It burns away the weight of pretending. What’s left is freedom not because the fire stopped, but because the fire belonged to God all along. Truth does not destroy. It delivers.

Reflection Question: What lies have you been protecting that God’s truth is trying to set on fire?

The mask turns to ash.
Only scars and freedom stay.
Truth refines the soul.
