When God’s Will Costs More Than His Blessings

Everyone says they want God’s will, until it starts taking away what they love. It is easy to praise Him when the blessings flow. It is harder when obedience means losing comfort, control, or the future you planned.

“He went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.” (Matthew 19:22)

The rich young ruler wanted eternal life, but not the exchange. He wanted blessing without surrender, gain without loss. But Jesus does not hand out blessings detached from His will. The two are inseparable.

We pray for open doors, yet argue with the ones He actually opens. We quote Jeremiah 29:11 but forget what comes before it, seventy years of exile before the promise.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

That promise was born in captivity, not comfort. God’s will often leads through valleys long before it crowns you on a hill.

If you are praying for God’s blessing, be ready for His will. They are the same path, not two separate ones. Blessings without surrender are counterfeit comforts. True blessing is peace in obedience, even when obedience costs you everything. The question is not whether God wants to bless you. He already has, through Christ. The real question is whether you want Him more than what He gives.

Reflection: What is one thing you are asking God for right now, and would you still follow Him if He said no?

Prayers for favor rise,
but few hands lift for His will.
Love costs more than gain.
