Put the Sword Away: Obedience Over Defense

Every insult stings. Every mocker makes you want to rise up and protect God’s honor – as if the One who spoke galaxies into being could be toppled by words. But what if defending Jesus isn’t your job at all?

“Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and He will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?” (Matthew 26:53)

It only took two angels to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. Jesus said He could summon seventy-two thousand. That is power beyond comprehension, yet He chose restraint.

When people mock your faith, it hurts – but be honest, the sting often comes from pride. We want to defend ourselves more than God. Pride makes us react, obedience makes us restrain.

Peter swung his sword, but Jesus healed the very man who came to arrest Him. He chose obedience over violence, restraint over retaliation. The strongest witness is not fighting mockers on their level. It is living with a peace so unshakable they cannot figure you out.

When they mock your faith, will you defend God’s reputation or obey His command?
