More Money, More Chains

Scripture

“What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” — Mark 8:36

Devotional

I used to make six figures. On paper, I had what everyone said was success. But vacations were just business trips with a better view. My phone never stopped ringing. Fake friends smiled, not because they loved me, but because they wanted connections, favors, or the crumbs of my paycheck.

The money came, but so did the chains. More money meant more bills. More deals meant less sleep. More “friends” meant less joy. I had everything people chase, and I still had nothing that mattered.

The lie is not just in loving money. The lie is believing money loves you back. It does not. It uses you until you are dry.

Scripture warns us that the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil (1 Timothy 6:10). I learned that lesson the hard way. The more I chased it, the more it owned me. I was a slave to what I thought would set me free.

True wealth is not six figures. True wealth is peace you cannot buy, rest you cannot schedule, and joy you cannot fake. It is waking up with your soul unchained. It is knowing God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

Reflection

  • Are you chasing freedom, or just decorating your prison cell with nicer furniture?
  • What would you lay down today so you could finally pick up peace?

Closing Verse

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’” — Hebrews 13:5
